Low cost replacement parts section.

I would like to suggest adding a section where members could post info about direct replacement parts that are lower cost than parts from Cub or Kohler. Members could supply a description of the part as well as the Cub/Kohler part number and the part number for the replacement part.

Example 1.

Thread title - KT17, M18 and M20 valve seals

Kohler part # KH-52-032-13-S. Average cost $20

Sealed Power part # ST-2005. Average cost $1.50 - $3

Example 2.

Thread title - KT17, M18 and M20 head gasket

Kohler part # KH-52-041-20-S. Average cost $20 - $25

Stens part # 465-344. Average cost $11 - $14


From there members could also add pics to show a comparison and links to where they purchased it. The ultimate goal here would be to have a section dedicated to this info to help both old and new members save money on their projects, this could be for anything Cub related from the items i used as examples to the drive shaft roll pins and the list goes on and on.

I'm unsure why a section like this would die since it would mostly be there for reference. I'm not expecting somebody to post something new everyday, that seems unrealistic. Even if the section only had 10 parts in it and those 10 parts helped members save money then i think it would be worth it. Just using the parts i listed in my example saved me over $50 which is a pretty big deal where i come from.

Thinking it can go in the parts sources section. Always good to have cross reference stuff.

Working for a dealer for a big forklift company I can honestly tell you that yes, we always push OEM parts and when WE manufacture them and they are proven to be better I will stand behind them but when we source them from a vendor and then just mark them up because we can, I have a problem backing that when sometimes the parts are identical from aftermarket because they buy them from the same vendor as we do. Just my .02

My .02 on this suggestion. I think it is a great idea. Would help me and I'm sure others when trying to find parts that are less expensive. I would much rather buy parts from a local parts store than pay the outrageous shipping cost one has to pay from some of these places. (Example, 2 oil seals from CC parts $14.06, shipping, $7.99)
With the help from Member Oak I was able to get them from o'reilly auto parts and will have them Monday @$4.99 each. Plus the fact the store is about 5 miles down the road.

I always just look up and buy my own parts. I get tired of people coming on here wanting us to look up parts for them, give them part numbers (whatever). Then they complain that the parts cost too much, dealer is too far away..... "Isn't there a cheaper option?", they ask. So the same group of people hunt around and find aftermarket parts for them.... we do all the work. Then it's, "Well, those take 3 days to get", or "I don't have a store like that close to me". Gets old.

But i do get it Tim, and I agree. I'm all for the info being in one spot too, but I think you can just post a thread in the parts section.

There's really nothing to spear head or maintain. I'm suggesting adding a sub section that would allow members to start a thread and post the info themselves just like the "technical tips" section in the technical library.
