Default A HUGE THANKS TO WILD BILL.........

I had a huge project ahead of me ......a transmission rebuild (so to speak).

I was given a Cub Cadet original in restored condition from my grandfather about 6 weeks ago. He had passed about 2 years now and you can imagine after a tractor sits for that long it can be pretty bad. Besides the oil leaks everywhere, there was another problem I encountered.

When I first got the Cub I started it up (it ran perfect) and put it into gear there was a clicking sound no matter what gear I put it into. So I started to look into it because I wanted to keep it in great condition like my grandfather did..... I found out I had a transmission problem.

Without going into a huge story, I wanted to say thank you to Wild Bill for the great advise and expertise on the original cub. Going off memory for him was spot on !!!. Also I wanted to thank the Only Cub Cadet web sponsor R.F. Houtz (Rob), that guy knows everything. If you got a Cub he knows it.

I will be viewing this web site daily because now I am hooked, also I am an expert on rebuilding a Cub Cadet Original transmission........any questions just ask

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the comments. It is a great tractor and I enjoy it a lot.

I do have one other question.... I know that there is a small plug on the side of the transmission that you pull out and you add transmission fluid on the top and keep adding till it spills out correct ? Roughly how much fluid is there ??

When I drained it, it had about 2 gallons in there. Is that correct ?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
