149 oil pan gasket
I know this post should be in the Kohler engine section but I felt it would be seen a lot more in this section. That being said, on to the question. For those of You that use a sealant on your oil pan gasket, what do you use? My oil pan leaked on the engine I rebuilt. It is now sitting on my garage floor with the oil pan off and cleaned. Would like to get the engine back in the frame today if possible. Thanks in advance for your help. Have a great day.

The key is to put gasket on pan and let it tack up just a little. Then do the dame with pan to engine. Dont over torque the bolts. Just snug them up. Let everything dry then snug up just a little more.

149 oil pan gasket
Thanks for your info Cooperino. How long do you let it tack up? I used some black sealant just between the pan and gasket. It was not rtv. Going out now to buy some. Don't want another leak. Thanks, and have a great day.

BTW. Use a thin layer NOT a bead of rtv.

Permatex with the brush applicator.
Never RTV. Check your pan carefully for cracks in the corners before installing, especially if it's a cast iron pan. Recently disassembled and re-built a 341 that had been put together with the RTV crap It was slobbered everywhere inside and outside the engine. |

I'm a fan of Permatex high tack spray-a-gasket a light coating on both the pan and the gasket, let it sit for about 2 minutes till tacky, lay the gasket in place, and assemble.

If you have an aluminum pan, make sure some well meaning person didn't put too long a bolt in the pan-to-frame holes, as it will crack the blind holes into the oil sump resulting in a slow leak/weep.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
