Default Vbelts on mower LTX1040

I'm new at this computer stuff but I try. I just posted a reply to an old post that no one will see as it was years old. I have a 46" deck and went to home depot and they had one. Not having done this before I assumed it was the correct one as it was a cub cadet belt and I put it on. it was too long. I took it off and measured it and it was a 107 inch. I called cub and they said for my model it needs a 103.25 belt and it has a 46" deck. So make sure you measure before you get started. You can't trust the package. I can't find one up here so I ordered a regular A101 v belt.

My question is Am I wasting my time and money and will only the stronger belts last? Thanks. I'm sure some of you have tried this already.

You really need the correct type of belt. The automotive type v belts will work but only temporarily. Most machine type belts have woven kevlar in them and are built differently. If you look in the forums here there is a very useful belt giude for finding the correct belt for deck and mule drive. I have used regular v belts in a pinch but like I said.they don't hold up.

The quality of belts varies greatly, as is usually reflected by the price to a degree. If you are pushing something to its limits and running it very often, then I'd go with a OEM or name brand belt. If it is occasional light duty use then you can opt for cheaper and usually get by. Another variable is how long it takes to get a replacement. If you can just walk into a local power transmission store or electric motor shop and get a replacement that's one thing. If you have to order it, that's another. Some folks switch over to Kevlar belts, when available. I've bought some with good results thus far. To answer your question, maybe a cheap belt will work, maybe it won't. On mowers the extra twists and turns can really put extra stress on a belt as opposed to one that runs pretty straight between 2 pulleys. A supplier I use often for belts is V-Belt Supply, you can find them on the net. Price is real cheap usually especially on BIG belts. They also have a good cross reference by OEM part #.

The second time went a lot faster and it turned out to be easier than I thought it would be. Thanks for your time. This was posted to such an old post I thought no one would see it. I'll have to try it and find out I don't think I can cancel the order, it's most likely on it's way. I ordered two as I figure it may not last.
Well it helps us to help you if you give us the right model number of tractor in the first post. That number 13wx91at056 comes up as an LTX1045 not a LTX1040.

The belt for that model is a Cub Cadet 954-04219 for 46" deck.

"A" section belt, 10mm wide but no length given.

The machine has 1040 on it. never thought it would be so hard to find the right belt. I was able to cancel the order and I ordered the right one from Granger. They have them there for 30 bucks and ship to me free as part of my farming account. Enough said on this subject. Thanks for your time.

Some industrial belts aren’t meant to bend the opposite way. Like around the tensioner. Hope the one you ordered was

If you ordered from Granger, I believe you can get Goodyear "instapower"belts from them.
Those Instapower line of belts, are designed for 1/4 and 1/2 twists and back side idlers found in farm & lawn equipment.
I personally prefer them to all but factory oem belts, as they last a long time.

I tried a blue tractor supply belt once, it lasted about 15 minutes.
Good part of that is, they cheerfully refunded my money.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
