Is there a senior member expert on 782D's out there ???
I've had the 782D pictured in the thread just before this one for about 20 years.
I'm pretty experienced in it ... have serviced and repaired everything for all 20 years. Belts, pulleys, fuel lines, drive shaft, tires, mower decks, cooling fan, you name it. Throttle has always been a problem ... fixed it again just now. Just replaced both valves in the hydrostatic transaxle. The tractor has quit charging. 14.4 volts AC measured coming off the alternator. What do I check next ??? How do I check the operation of the regulator/ rectifier ??? |

If you are only getting 14.4V AC out of the alternator, I'd say the alternator is toast, because the DC output from the regulator will be half that.

Did you check the voltage off the two alt wires at full rpm? It should be at least 20 ac. My problem ended up being the regulator. If you want I'll let you know where I got mine brand new and paid WAY less than alot of places.

It should be more than 20...you should have probably 28VAC across the two alternator wires. 20V would mean 10V to the battery, and that wouldn't charge the battery.

I'm just going by what the diesel manaul says but you're right as mine puts out about 28vac.

I mis led you ... my fault. Voltage from alternator at idle is 14.5 volts AC ... voltage at mowing speed .... full throttle ... is 30 volts AC ...
Now I suspect the rectifier / regulator ... how do I prove it "toast" ... and can I find a replacement for less money ... looks like nearly $150 !!! ... anybody have a used "parted out" unit for this machine ??? |
