1450 not charging
I messed with the 1450 after 10 years. It runs, but poorly. I noticed when then ignition is off the hours meter keeps running and I can hear the solenoid click occasionally. The battery always drains. Where do I begin to fix this issue? Also when tilling do you run throttle at full fast? Anything helps, I want this to run as I remember as a kid

First, welcome to OCC....
Let's start this process in stages. First, lets make sure that both Battery Cables (on each end) are clean, bright and tight. Then put Battery Charger on the Battery to get it charged up. Take the Battery to a "testing place" (Big Auto Parts Box stores) and have the battery "load tested". Report back on your findings.

Hour meter should not run with the ignition off. It's either miswired or the switch is bad. Since there's schematics here on the forum, it's easy to check. My guess is it's miswired. Likewise, tiller manual is here and will instruct how to use it. If the cub hasn't been used in 10 yrs it deserves a fuel system cleanout, oil change and a peek at the points. Not much , really!

Hour meter is a spring type "kick back" unit and will stay running with then key off for a bit until the spring winds back down.
Watch it, it will stop and if there is still power to it it will rewind the spring and start over again, you should be able to hear that action when/if it happens unless like the guys say, something is wired wrong. |

Seems like they will run near 30-60 seconds between electro magnet pulses pulling the rewind spring after the power is turned off.
if more than that check the wiring. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
