Default K301 Head differences
I replaced my head on my K301 (12hp). I noticed the new head had thicker webs over the combustion area. I have not seen this on other head threads.
Just curious... Old head is on the right.

probably from being a late run in the casting pattern. you see the same thing with blocks. that's the wrong head for a 122 era 12 hp kohler...

It came off a WH engine (K301AQS I think). I needed a head, but I got the whole engine for $50. My head had a crack right in the middle. The whole head was bowed up right near the spark plug hole, and the PO had stripped out the plug threads. It runs better now.

Those are from completely different molds.
Compare the upper right corner fins.
