Default LT1045 Engine replacement

I recently acquired a 2005 LT 1045. It has a 20hp Kohler SV600-0009. It is a single cylinder. The previous owner destroyed the engine so I am looking to replace the engine. My first question is if anyone knows of a place to buy cheap engines? My other question is if any model of SV600 would work and would be easy to wire? And finally if a 21hp SV610 or 22hp SV620 would work and if the extra power would make any difference. From what I can tell the SV610 and SV620 are the same engine but with a higher hp rating. Since the cost is about the same I did not know if it would be an easy swap and worth the extra power since the LT1046 has the same deck but a 22hp V-twin.

Thanks for the help.

I have a LT1046 and from what I know about either of these two you should just trash it these newer cub aren't worth the plastic they are vacumm molded out of!!! I also have a 1810 I cut grass with it anytime over the newer one and can cut circles around the Lt1046 with smaller motor and 44" deck. Just my thoughts

I am not sure why everyone trash talks the newer Cub LT series. I have a LT 1042 that runs flawlessly. It is a mower not a tractor, but I have used it pretty well. I hauled 900 lbs of bags of pellets to my back building at a time(5 tons worth) and it never struggled. The only thing that has happened was I took the deck off and forgot to replace the bracket to keep the PTO from spinning and it spun the PTO and ripped the wires off the field coil when I started it. Till I can find a good used coil, I will use the tractor for taking my grandson tractor rides. I like the way it mows as much as the older Cubs though. If you decide to part it,I would be interested in the field coil. I need one from 2006 and earlier.

You might want to check out small engine warehouse, sometimes they have
engines that are model-end runs.

I would think you should be able to pop in a kohler courage v-twin from a LT1046 pretty easily to replace the single in the 1045. I think the engine is the only difference between the 1045 and 1046. I've got a '07 1045 and for a LT it's been great. I abused it to GT standards hauling waaaaay too much heavy wet clay but the little thing did great. I remember a lot of people having problems with the earlier kohler courage engines, but that is nothing against Cub that was a Kohler problem across the board.

Thanks for the help. I will most likely put a V-twin in it when I go to fix it. I may not end up getting the yard I thought I would so I may not have a need to fix it anytime soon. Just have to wait and see what happens.

If you decide to not use the original motor,I would be interested in the field coil part of the PTO...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
