M20S Starter
Looking for a trusted source you guys might recommend to purchase an aftermarket replacement starter for the M20S in my 2072. Kohler number is 52-098-06. I'm not interested in genuine Kohler at $300 plus, but don't want chinese junk either. There are many on E-bay in the $50 -$70 range but ??? Anybody had good luck and want to share your source? Thanks!

I've been buying the Chinese ones from DB electrical for several years for my Kawasaki mule---it gets cranked WAY more than all the lawn mowers here combined. I'm not certain any of them went "bad" just maybe got worn to the point I have the same problem as the original Denso---makes a gosh awful grinding sound, but isn't grinding the flywheel. We tried running an extra ground cable straight from the battery to the starter mounting bolt, picked up the infamous Kawasaki relay kit for Deere mowers and added it---even turned the starter gear around on the flywheel. Worn out quite a few batteries too. I'm convinced the problem is a low voltage drop or something due to bad wiring/key switch. It sometimes goes 6 months without screwing up. I've decided to just live with it. Sorry to get so far off track, but I would recommend them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
