2182 PTO disengages after warm.
Hi, what would I look for when the clutch won't stay engaged after 2-3 minutes of running?
Cools down - starts working again, but only a minute or so. Gap set correctly. Whole PTO assembly changed out 2 years ago and working fine until this season. Wiring looks good. Testing it without the motor started and it will work every time. Something is getting hot and disengages it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Vertigo1 Cyclops with a serial number just a few from the end of them. |

What kind of PTO is currently installed? Was it new, used? OEM, aftermarket? Really, as much info as you have.

It was an aftermarket clutch sold by ECCPP. Replacement 717-3389.
New battery and negative lead installed recently. New oem pto to deck belt replaced. Seat and shifter safety's have been bypassed since I owned it. That's all I can think of now. |

Most likely a China made clutch. They are made cheap, not made to last. The last post in this next thread says it all.
https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...highlight=2182 I was on the couch with nothing to do when this thread was started(getting over ankle/knee surgery). I emailed extreme and asked them if their clutches were made in USA or China. No response so I am thinking made in china. I researched the Warner clutches and they are made in USA and not too much more than the china made clutches. Less than 100.00 more. You get what you pay for. I will look tomorrow when I have more time and post that info.

When the PTO Clutch fails, measure the resistance of the clutch windings. Anything over 10 ohms, will indicate a FAILURE.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
