Default Tiller Pulley Question

I have a #1 tiller that I need help with finding a new pulley on the bottom of the gearbox to take a larger belt (5/8) for my 782. Has anyone ever changed that pulley and if so where can I find one. Thanks

I don't know if they will stock the exact one you need but you can try your local TRACTOR SUPPLY (TSC) ...They normally have a lot of pulleys over between the chainsaws and the hardware section, and over in the farm equipment section by the driveshafts and drive chains they also stock hubs and weld on sheaves.....WHen I needed an idler for my mower deck they had one...

You might try mcmaster-carr. TSC will not have one, because this is a special cast-iron pulley with a rather long hub on it. If you can find one that's essentially the same size but with a 5/8" groove, you should be all set.

Thanks for the help Matt, but had already looked in Mcmasters catalog. Like you said it is a very special cast pulley with long hub which is going to be a hard one to find. Any other ideas would be great. Thanks

I have a #2 tiller with the 5/8 pulley that I want to use on my 125 so my problem is the other way around. Also have not had any luck finding a pulley.

Why don't you two swap?
I really don't see the issue...but, I haven't looked. The shaft is 11/16", or 3/4" on the gearbox. You really don't need a cast pulley. It's just the strongest way to make it. I'm sure a stamped steel, or even easier to find would be an aluminum one.
You just need one with the right width V design, and a set screw. The original one has three, but that's just for centering. Check the Summit Racing catalog. You mat have to call, and see if they offer one with set screws. Or, check the Pulling Tractors catalogs.

I need a larger V-groove for a 5/8 belt rather than the 1/2 belt that my #1 is made for. A trade would be great if the shaft sizes is the same except mine now has a very small chip on one edge of the V-groove, which I might be able to braze back in the piece that broke. Sounds like a #2 tiller might use the belt I need. If you get your pulley off, lets talk. Mine is off. Also I found it hard to pull mine off so I took the cover off the gear box and removed the C-clips holding the gears and then pushed the shaft out the bottom, then used a press.

DO NOT use an aluminum pulley for this. They are not strong enough. There is a reason these are cast iron. The 5/8" pulley is actually a cast iron hub with a stamped steel pulley on it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
