Weekend auction finds
Went to an auction today and this little guy wound up coming home, a Sears suburban 12 six speed. I also got two old walk behinds a wizard by Western auto, and a snapper. I was wanting the wizard just because I collect any old Western auto items I can find, but the couldn't get a bid on the snapper so they made a package deal.

Nice!!
I used to have one of those Snapper mowers. Probably my favorite, along with a John Deere 14SE. I loved the Snapper because it mowed well and it was super-simple. One of the best, simplest self-propel mechanisms I have seen.

Nice. Was also wondering about how the auction crowd (or lack thereof) was. Normal sized crowd? Where was the auction?
We used to have an old JCPenney's push mower with a B/S engine like your Western Auto version in the pic. It had the attached, folding cranking handle too. Good mower until I used it to mow the neighbor's yard as a kid and hit his cast iron water meter cover. Bent the crankshaft/blade. That was the end of that era. |

Thanks guys! The auction had a normal amount of people for this area, and the size of the auction. There were probably 100-125 people in attendance. The auction was in Whitewater, near Advance, here in southeast Mo. The only thing I did notice is in general various items seemed to bring less than usual, I figure money is just kind of tight everywhere during this time.

The more I look at this snapper the more I like it. I think it'll run tanks pretty clean and it seems to have good spark.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
