Have LED Flashlights Made This Obsolete?

I remember having a droplight with alligator clips, and a 12 volt bulb (the 1960's?)

Here we now have a 12volt LED bulb for $4 with free shipping.

Would that make a nice worklight you could hook to the battery, or is it obsolete now that we have a long lasting LED flashlight?

Flashlight batteries are almost a buck a piece!

We went to cordless, rechargeable LED trouble lights at the shop years ago. Who wants to hassle with a cord? They are brighter, don't get hot, and just plain easier to use! But not cheaper.... no, they fail that area!

Cordless LED lights are one area that you get what you pay for. Mine run around $100 each and I have 4. 2 at the shop, 1 in the garage and 1 in the truck.

Yep. That's what I pay for mine too! I just got a REALLY good one. Made by Blue Point (Snap-On) Uses "light diffusing technology" (or so it says). Anyway. It doesn't cast a shadow while you hand is in front of the light. Oh, maybe a little, but not like other lights. It is REALLY bright too. Even got one about 3.5' long that clamps on the under side of the hood. That was like $250 or $300, I don't remember, but it's one of the best lights I ever bought. If it runs dead while using it, you can plug it in and it will just run off the cord. It's about as good as having a single 4' florescent light under the hood!

I think the LED has killed the old school stuff.. I carry 6D mag lights in my vehicles but they don't hold a candle to some of these micro lights these days. There are LED mag light conversion, but they're spendy. I hear you on the battery cost.. I have a surefire knock-off light that runs CR-123 batteries and in the surefire brand those batteries are closer to $3/ea! Worth it for my application, though.

Of course, I'm think of this more like an emergency work light. The stuff the other guys are talking about sounds really nice for primary work lights.

Cadplans, I still have one of those 12V with the clips, it was my Grandfathers. Have it stored away for safe keeping. You posting about that light brought back and lot of memories of my Father and Grandfather at the race track in the late 50's and early 60's.
