Default Blast cabinet dust collector

I have been using a shop vac as a dust collector on my blast cabinet. It works fairly well but after a while the filter gets plugged and it loses suction. I was looking at different styles of homemade dust collectors online and I decided to make a cheap cyclone style. I used a 5 gal bucket and a few pvc fittings. The inlet from the cabinet enters at an angle to direct the dust against the wall of the bucket where it swirls around and drops out of the air. It seems to work good considering it took about 10 minutes and $11 to build.

Very interesting!!

My tractor has an air filter that works the same way.

Consider setting a 3 gallon bucket inside your blue bucket, making the air swirl a little further, that is what this tractor has.

Wonder about taking the entire air cleaner assembly off a piece of ag or industrial equipment. Get one of the vertical styles that has the large dust collector bowl on the bottom. The air filter already has the fins on it.

That's a great idea. I have the same blast cabinet, and use a shop vac hooked up directly. Will have to try this cyclone idea. Thanks for sharing. Come to think of it, I have the exact same thing (30gal trash can) between my woodworking planer and the shop's dust collector.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
