1711 Hydro
I had posted about this model earlier, but am going to look at one. What can you tell me about them. The one I am looking at stopped moving. The guy says it has a 17 hp kohler. He said they were mowing and it just stopped moving. It has been in a building sitting for the last couple years. Is this a garden tractor or lawn tractor? Will most attatchments from other cubs fit it or are they specific to this model? I can get this for less than $100.00 but if its going to be a major repair, I'd like to know before I sink the money into it, so any ideas as to what may be wrong would be great. I will be looking at this tommorrow, so any advice would be helpful as well as any pics.

The 1711 is an 82 series garden tractor. I would think most any 82 series attachment will work on this. Sounds to me like he has either run it out of hyd oil, filter is plugged up or there is a problem somewhere in the drive line, bad rag joint or a spirol pin has broken. Worst case scenario the hydro pump is shot. A pump can be had for less than a $100. For the price it would be sitting in my garage no questions asked. Good luck.

I love my 1711. It is the same as a 782. It is a GT with hydraulic lift and hydro transmission. It sounds to me that one of the spiral pins has sheared either at the front or rear of the drive shaft of the one you are looking at. Mine did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Not too difficult to repair. You can put a sleeve hitch adapter on the back and can use most all of the cub sleeve hitch implements.

Thanks to all that replied, but it was a false alarm. I went and looked at it ready to take it home, but it turned out to be a 1720. It had a 17 hp Kohler, but it was a vertical shaft belt drive lawn tractor. I could probally get it for $75.00, but it looks like a light duty set up that I would have no use for or interest in putting money into. Oh well, I know where two more are sitting and one may be a diesel. They are just sitting out in the weather about 1/4 mile from my house, just haven't seen the guy out.

Man, I got dizzy for a minute when I saw those hub caps. It looked like a time tunnel to outer space or something! Whew!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
