Default General cutting deck question

Im refurbishing the 289 48" deck from my 3206 cub. Its solid other than this under piece which is all twisted up. It is in the middle behind the middle blade. Now, im assuming it has something to do with aerodynamics of grass clippings

QUESTION: should I cut this chunck of metal out and call it a day or should I try to reshape it and weld it back in

I would cut that section out. Buy a new piece of metal. Shape it to fit. Then weld it up (or have it welded).

Looks like it is part of the "deck baffle" and it does effect the cutting capability.

I'm not 100% sure if that will work or not. It should look like this.

That baffle helps to produce vacuum (suction) that stands the blade up...You may need to add more to the refurb there....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
