Default M-20 Electrical Issues

I installed this engine about 2yrs ago(M20QS). 4hrs run time and the charging system made a noise and quit charging, so I unplugged it. I run it with a fresh battery a little since then. The ignition quit on me, so I pull the engine, clean out magnet debris and now it has great spark. Im going to pull the flywheel. Replace flywheel? Coil? Can I replace coil with out pulling engine later? Thanks for any advice.

I'm a little confused as to what you want/need to do. If its working, why do you need to pull anything? If the coil is like the one on my M18, it would be a real chore to get the air shroud off with the engine in the machine. I have been told by one guy he did it, but it wasn't fun. If you have a hoist/crane/friend with a good back, then to me its easier to pull the engine out to get to the coil.

If it quit charging, you might be in for a surprise when you pull the flywheel off and find broken/unglued magnets.
I hope not, for your sake!
They are not fun to re glue and they have to be put in correctly as far as polarity and spacing.
The magnets are not available and I'm not sure, but the M-20 flywheel might be different from the more common M-18 if you are planning on replacing the complete flywheel

I had the "disconnected magnets" on a KT19. I pulled the engine last fall and JBWelded them back in. I ran the tractor maybe an hour and I think that 1 or more may have come off again. I have not messed with it since, just tarped it on my trailer for the then-still-coming winter. I have had other projects since to eat up my time. Currently it is about #4 on the list of things to fix round here. After finishing the engine overhaul on my 1200, and getting that all back running again, then my Ariens S16h needs some of my attention. One of my Dakotas that I have been putting off for a few weeks now needs me to put the new bearings. I have sitting here into the front diff. I'm anxious to see just what happened to that KT. I only know at the moment that it did NOT "blow up" or "lock up".

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
