Clutch Spring compression tool
wanted to make this out of channel iron like I was instructed to but I tried to drill into the channel iron that I got at tractor supply but could not get a hole into it (spent $60.00 in different drill bits) So I gave up. I used this metal I had laying around instead. I just wanted some imput to see if every one thinks this will work or am I going to kill myself. How much pressure is clutch spring holding?

It's gonna flex a bit, but with a stock clutch spring, you should be alright. The stock springs are about 250-300#/in. of compression.

I guess I'll give it a try this weekend and see if it works. I still have to get the clutch off the tractor. I am in the begining stages of setting up a shop don't have all the right equipment. I have to go out and buy things as I go. Any tricks to drilling in channel iron. My jig saw cuts through it like its butter but When i drill it it won't even mark it . I've tried slow, fast speeds oil as i go. Cobalt bits, high speed bits, tried it with a small bench press and a hand drill. I'll keep you posted

I like your set up it alot easier to work with. I look at the spiral pin punch set at sears fri $19.99. but couldn't use it when i was trying to removal pin in shaft to remove clutch to short. I didn't think about afterwards to remove the spring and other parts. will go back and get it for my tool box. Thanks for the imput.

FER100: Just like wrenches, those Roll Pin punches do come in more than one size....try buying the whole set and then you can remove any of the pins...just use the right size ..

I understand the short set is all sears had on display. I'am going back today and get that set and pick up there tool catalog. I also i'm going to start hitting some auctions and try to start to build a shop. Like getting a welder , build a work table. I have a large sears compressor and alot of the air tools already. I need to build a work bench in garage also. Up here in watertown I keep my tools in the basement winters are cold and with snow storms dropping any where from 3 feet to 5 feet of snow per storm i need to keep garage empty for the cars.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
