1810 Diesel Project
I have had a bunch of problems with blowing up kohler twins so I decided to start my diesel cub project. I acquired a kubota d905 and I am installing it in my 1810 parts tractor. The engine is in and barely fits, the throttle linkage is done, the driveshaft is hooked up, and the radiator is mounted. I also decided to install a hand pump air ride seat on it. Now for the hard and expensive part of finding hooking up power steering, and fitting a fuel tank. After I get it running and driving I am going to install a front end loader on it that I bought for another cub. Hopefully I will be able to piece together a cat0 3-point before plowing season. Here are a few pics, sorry for the crappy cellphone quality.
If anyone has power steering parts forsale please e-mail or PM me. djweeks@mchsi.com

Looks good. What type of radiator are you going to use and do you have any close ups of the enginge cradle and drive shaft flange?

It is a diesel, its going to need a bigger muffler!!
Great looking conversion. Couldn't resist commenting on the muffler. Will the manifold hold that muffler up?? |

I'm wondering the same thing. I have heard of cracked exhaust manifolds on the Kubota engines.

That is not the exhaust that I am going to run. It was on the engine when I had it on the running stand. It was thrown together so I could run the engine in the shop and not go deaf. It will have a much nicer looking exhaust when it is done. Thanks for the replys and the comments.

Finally an update and steering!!
I spent today adding power steering to my 1810 Diesel project. I used power steering parts from a JD318 and modified them to fit the cub. Space is very limited with the large Kubota engine so it took a ton of cutting and welding to make it all fit. I had to remove 3 inches out of the steering column and that was a fun task. Then it took a while to get the spindle and cylinder geometry figured out and to get the spindle reinforced, but now just a few lines and it will be moving and steering. I did not take any pics during but here is a few when it was done. I raised the column a bit over stock, but with the air ride seat it is super comfortable (especially since i'm 6'4" tall). Hopefully I can get the hydraulic lines and the foot hydro controls built this week.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
