IH made Lawn Tractors
To meet competing brands selling lawn tractors instead of Garden tractors at prices well below the Cub Cadets, IH introduced the Yellow & White Model 76 in 1972 and added the Yellow & White Model 80 (hydrostatic) in 1975. The Kind/Code for them are 0340010Uxxxxxx and 0340021Uxxxxxxx. In 1976, in commemoration of the Bicentennial 200th anniversary of the US of A, IH took the existing Model 76 and with patriotic flag colors and decals issued the Spirit of '76 as their commemoration of that event. The SO76's had their own Kind/Code, 00350001Uxxxxxx and Serial number range 28600-31287 (late 1975 production) and 31288-32104 (1976 production).
Later Lawn Tractor models included the Model 81 for 1977, the 111 for 1979 and the 82 series 182, 282, 382 & 382H for 1980 & 81.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
