149 dies on steep incline
I put my duals on my 149 so I could mow the hill, just as I'm almost to the top, it dies in typical kohler fashion( no warning just a backfire and done) Im like hmm thats the way it dies when its out of gas. I know it has a full tank. I roll it back to the closest horizontal area and voila it starts right back up. So I guess It was too steep and the way the carb float is mounted it shut off the fuel. Guess I should mow the steepest part going down hill only. Is there a way to adjust the float to prevent this. There is no obstruction in the fuel lines and I donthave a fuel filter on it.

You must have been on that hill for some time. I always shut off my fuel and run the engine till it stops when parking it. And I am always ready to go in the house before the carb runs dry. Recovery time on this is almost instantaneous.

speaking of lack of oil, a guy who runs a small engine shop told me this. a guy was running his 149 on such a slope, that he rolled it a couple times. once he figured out how to mow without falling over, he punced a 6 inch hole in the side of his block. he wrecked the rod, piston, cylinder, cam, and anything else he could find in the crank case. not exacly the brightest person. Oh, I LOVE the duals. can't wait to see the ags mounted.

When mowing the same hill with my other tractor (18hp Murray) the front wheels want to come off the ground a bit, so I have to lean forward. So yes, it is a bit of a steep hill. I mow it late in the afternoon after the dew is off or I'll not make it up. I've never checked to see what degree incline it is. I try not to mow anything sideways on the hill for the very reason of splash lubrication.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
