50A mulch plug
I want to put a set of gator blades on my 50A to get some better mulching action. is there a mulch plug to put inplace to cover the discharge shoot? if so does anyone have a picture of the underside of one installed?

This is from the Parts Manual. I am not sure if this was a Mulch Plug or a deflector...

I made mine with a piece of sheet metal much like the one in the pix but no fancy radius on the bottom, just flat.
Works wonderful for mulching leaves, I have lots of trees and for 35 years I raked them,--not no more, since I made the plug for my 50C and use gator blades. Don't work worth a darn for grass though, as it is too thick, it just makes a clumpy mess. unless I mow 3x a week and that ain't gonna happen mowing 2-3 acres |

That's a deflector. I had a few decks with it on. Works very well, doesn't clump up the grass like alot of the newer deflectors do. They seem hard to find though.

my 50A has the deflector on it. it does not have much of and angle to it. i didnt really know what it did with such a shallow angle. i was thinking of taking that off and making a mulch plug. i figured it would need to be bent to conform to the arc of the blades to help maintain lift. i have 2 acres which 1/2 is irrigated Bermuda, and the rest west texas dirt and native grass. i figured that deflector was standard and a mulch plug would be optional. i dont know if mulching was popular then though.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
