Default Anyone try Trandenser II Electronic Ignition System

I was thinking about using Trandenser II Electronic Ignition System on my Cub Cadet 122. I was wondering if anyone has tried yet before I buy one.

thanks Thad

Default transdenser II

Yep ! Bought the Bosch Blue coil, and the Point Saver 2 years ago. Installed the coil, and it ran and started so much better, that I never got around to installing the Point Saver. Ordered the Transdenser on a whim, and in combination with the new coil it has never started so easily. Made it possible to open the spark plug gap to .030", getting a much stronger spark. The LED light on the transdenser makes static timing easy. Anybody want an unused Point Saver?

I put one on my 782 with kt17 series II. I feel like it starts better in cold temperatures. It will fire right away as soon as I start cranking, before it would take a few revolutions before it would fire.

What gap was you running before transdenser?
What brand spark plug?

Kohler manual say battery ignition systems should have the spark plug cap at .035.

I have one of my IH Cub Cadets that has a Bosch coil, 9mm spark plug wire and an Autolite spark plug with a .045 cap with no problems.

Iwas using an Autolite 216 plug gapped @ .025 (per IHCC operators manual specs) before installing the Bosch Blue coil. David Kirk suggested .030--.032 with the new coil. The new coil and gap change alone made a big difference in cold starts. Before installing the new coil it would NOT start below 15 deg without prolonged cranking and a jump from a marine battery. After installing the new coil it would start without a jump. I installed the Transdenser II last month, and with no other changes, it starts quickly even at 10 deg .

Anybody have the part number handy for the Bosch
Blue coil? What about a coil like a MSD? I want to replace my coil so I
need a 3 ohm coil correct?

Thanks
John

Which would have more accurate information about your engine in your 122?
The company that design and built the engine or the company the built the rest of the tractor?

Page 1.6 of a Kohler service manual has the following information on spark plug cap:
Battery ignition
K91-K161-K181-.025 ( have a K161 running .035 gap)
K241-K301-K321-K341-.035

Magneto-All Engines-.025

It would be interesting to know who from IH and why they went with .025 plug gap.
I have a feeling it has something to do with selling IH Cub Cadets that had magneto and battery ignition. Odds are the one who designed the manuals for iH Cub Cadet products didn't have very much knowledge on Kohler engines.

David Kirk has some good products and great write ups. I have used a few of his cams he sells and built a Killer Kohler in a 10 hp version.

Replace the plug wire if you haven't done it.

Word of caution...electronics and moisture don't work good together.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
