Rick form Wisconsin here. I recently bought a Red 782 / KT17 / mower / 42"? deck / 45" snow throw / snow blade. It's my first "real" garden tractor and I'm tellin ya I can't stay off the thing. Didn't run real good at first but after I did a deep dive into this amazing site I was able to get the KT17 humming good. I will put up a picture once I figure out how to maneuver my way around but I have question.

The KT17 will overheat with the tractor side covers installed not matter what the outside temperature is. I suspect I may be missing an engine top cover because it has engine fin covers installed. Where could I find a picture or parts list or something that may confirm that.

Thanks again for letting me join I have already spent many hours on the site!

Correct and the model/serial plate has Cleveland, Oh stamped on it. Is that CCC? Also while t/s the engine problem I noticed an additional short block rating plate on one of the covers. I have all the service records/receipts from the original owner and with the thrower/blade/repair etc he had quite an investment in this machine. Tickled to own it!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
