Carburetor Flooding?????
LTX 1042
I ran my mower a month ago with no problem. The fuel tank was full when I parked it. Three days ago the engine would not start. I took off the air filter and the carburetor was filled with gas and my fuel tank was empty. I removed the deck and installed new blades, repacked bearings and a pulley, changed the fuel filter, oil filter, and even replaced the carburetor and I'm still getting a flooding problem. It now runs but chokes out after about 50 feet with the carburetor filled with fuel. Can someone give me a hint on what to do next. |

Sounds like the float is stuck open. Time for a fuel system cleaning.

Thank you for the reply.
The fuel that was in the tank was fresh fuel. I replaced the fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, carburetor and gaskets. After a third time this morning, I was able to get it started and running. I put a valve in the fuel line to prevent any further fuel spilling on the ground. So far so good. I'm getting a fresh tank in the morning and will attempt to go more than the 200 feet (that's as far as I had fuel today) and cut the grass. I'm still not sure why the fuel was flooding through the carb though.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
