Default Picture of the Week for January 17, 2011

Cub Cadet Original & Cub Cadet 582

Owner: Kevin (Tractor2nv)
Location: Tennessee

First and last models built at Louisville Works, I own them both which are workers (Original is my wife’s). Cub Cadet Corp is celebrating 50 yrs. but the first 20 needs to remain historically.

Default Picture of the Week!!

A BIG thanks too all! Of all the Cubs I have owned in the past I would say the Original is the most models I have owned. I gave this one to my wife,it is one of three Originals from the same farm...get this: all three were bought for $600! All three had fenders,my wife's came with the weights, paint as you see it and later added the blade. They were found just 3 miles from my place, widow lady priced them and we bought them! As we were loading she came back to the barn with a small IH stamped box and wraped in IH wax paper...NOS IH stamped hub caps! Had to pay an extra $50 to get them! The 582(IH built) was purchased just 1 miles from me too! I watched the previous owner trim mow with it for years. He mows with a tractor and finish mower and would follow up with the 582 around trees and his home/barn. Attached pic is a 61 Original I wish I never got rid of...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
