Default 1710 - 1711 - 1712

The models above were only produced for one model year (1985) due to the introduction of the Magnum 18. One would guess they would have to be among the rarest, yet they are not on the "Rare List"? Why?

Because unlike IH, CCC didn't keep track of how many of each model were made.

I've got a 1710 at my house...... I hope it is "rare".

Tim is right. Besides, they built lots of them in a year.

According to Oscar Will III in his book, CCC produced 9599 Garden Tractors at the Brownsville TN plant in 1985. According to MTD they produced:
  • 582
  • 582 Special
  • 682
  • 782
  • 782D
  • 982
  • 1604
  • 1605
  • 1606
  • 1610
  • 1710
  • 1711
  • 1712
  • 1912
  • 1914

They produced 15 different "lines" the year they were phasing out the red Black Stripes, and that's under 1000 units per line (I know, I know...they don't produce the same number of units in all lines). But why wouldn't the 1710/1711/1712 be on the "Rare List"? The odds are -- not many were produced.

The 16xx tractors are LT's not GT's, I see them on Craigslist all the time.

Aside from the decal, what's the difference between a late 6/782 and a 1710/11? I had a 1710 for parts and I think 682 was on the serial tag.

According to tractordata.com, the 1605 and 1610 are LT's. The 1604 would be equivalent to a 582 special, 16 hp Briggs and 4spd trans. The 1606 has a 16 hp Briggs and 3 spd trans with creeper (6 spd).

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
