2166 PTO Clutch Problem? (Blades bog down easily and stop engaging after...)
Hello folks,
just came across this forum while googling my problem with my 2166. I'd appreciate any assistance you guys can offer, and will try not to be one of those one-time-use forum members  Seems to be a problem with the PTO clutch. I just replaced the battery yesterday before starting on some lawn work because I had been having this problem last season. The condition seems to have improved a little bit, but the blade still bogs down easily in what it should be able to blow right through. Also, when I engage the PTO the blades sound as if they slowly start and ramp up in speed until full speed is reached. After mowing for a while and heat builds up, the blade will quit working and there is no engagement on from the PTO switch at all. Cooling down the clutch with a water hose seems to make the blade engage again for a while. I have not checked the voltage readings as I do not know how to do this. Does anyone know what might be the problem? Will I need to replace the clutch? Thanks in advance!
