Default Got the 1641 De-Cyclopsed

Well the plastic on the old gal finally gave up. No more plastic patching for this guy. When I got the 1641 5-6 years ago the plastic pieces were in sad shape and I have been patching, plating and gusseting the panels till there was no more patch left. Decided to do a 82 series retrofit. Still got some small things to do but all in all I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. Need to fill in the gas cap hole and fab up a grill and install some new canvas for around the hood.

Looks great! Did you have to do anything special around the Cyclops dash to make the 582 hood fit properly? Were the side panels a direct fit?
Thanks for posting. pics of the process would be great if you have them

Jay I had to trim the lip off of the dash with a cut off wheel so the 582 hood would sit flush on it. Moved the grill back approx. 1 1/2" and removed about the same on the hood where it sits on the dash. Trimmed about 3/4" off the front of the side panels to get the correct length. Cut out the sides of the plastic dash so the side panels would fit up against the dash tower. Had to notch out a spot on the left panel so it would go around the hydraulic hoses. The right side panel I was able to use the original mounting hole and drill a hole in dash tower and the left one I had to use a different area on the panel to mount with.

Nice work on the sheet metal, are you going to try and put the 82 rear fenders on also?

Glad to know it can work. I have been eyeballing the two series for a while and thought it might work.

Tim at this point in time I don't have any 82 series fender pans kicking around. Not sure I could make that happen being that the gas tank is under the fender pan. Not sure it would be adaptable. Would really need to lay them both on the ground upside down and do a comparison. It would be nice if it would work because the cab is off from an 82 series tractor. Next years project.

johnhall doubt if i will decal it because the only action it sees is snowblowing.
Thanks for the compliments guys.

Nice job Kelly. I'd like to see some close-up's of the transition around the dash tower when you get a chance.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
