Default M-20 issues
I have a 2082 with an m20 kohler the engine only has 2 speeds idle and wide open throttle nothing in the middle not sure if this is a carb issue or a governor issue but sounds like engine will over rev and do not want to blow it up any help would be appreciated

Sure sounds like a governor issue to me. How and when did it start doing this?

It started about 2 weeks ago was running perfect for about two months after I rebuilt the engine. Just started this all of a sudden the engine adjusts in tall grass as if the governor is operating i looked down the oil fill and can see the gear for the governor.

I suggest you adjust according to the service manual after inspecting that something didn't move or a spring etc, came loose or broke.

I agree.
When trying to make the adjustment, if the shaft spins, but never contacts anything, you broke the tab off the governor control arm.
