Default LT 2138 forward/reverse shaft broke

I seem to have a broken forward/reverse shaft 603-0697.
Has anyone else had to replace one of these?
Are there any other parts that I should replace while I've got it apart?
I was wondering about washers or bearings. I do not want to get into this and have to make a second parts order.

Thanks
Rich

I recently acquired a 2185 and have been checking things out under it. Nothing major is broken on mine in regards to the forward/reverse mechanics but I do see where several of the little bushings are either worn out or missing from it. If I was ordering parts for it I would probably order several of the different bushings for that system. In my case it would be part numbers 941-3073 and 941-3074. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps.

Thanks Merlin,
That is what I was thinking also. The only way I can see this shaft breaking is for the bearing to have failed and the ware in the shaft weakened it.

I took the mower deck off tonight. The real problem was a missing shoulder bolt. A new one has been ordered. I'll put something there to get it going until the correct one gets here.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
