Carburetor Question
Hello,
I have a B & S 16hp Vanguard engine (303447, 1279-E1) with a Mikuni carburetor (marked: 6100, 22-131, 808070, 83B). I have the correct B&S repair manual and it refers to my engine model in the "carburetor" section but the pictures don't exactly match my carb. Also having some issues in the parts manual. Some parts have 2 or 3 versions but I'm not sure which parts is for my carb. When I search the carb #'s most of the very little information comes back as Nikki 6100 22-131 instead of Mikuni. Is it the same company? Why can't I find much info about this carb? Thanks |

Does the manual show multiple builds for that engine or multiple applications for it?
What is the engine in?

It is NOT uncommon, when manuafacturer's compiles and publishes a Service Manual to use typical or generic image(s) when an illustrated figure is referenced to. If they depicted every model of Carb, the manual would be really thick.

Jon I'm going to guess it's the HDS3165 he posted about in another thread with a B&S 16 Vanguard in it. That's weird because my Cub 1641 has the same engine I.D. 303447 and it has a Nikki carb on it. Very expensive to rebuild. The last kit I bought for that carb was in the range of $50.

Jonathan:
I have engine manuals also and I disagree with you. BUT...it's not worth the debate, argument, and to carry on for another 20 posts.

I don't have a better pic of mine but does it look like this one on my 3165?
DSCN1234.jpg I just opened my Vanguard manual and it can have a Mikuni (2 versions) or the Nikki. Do you have that manual?

I've been out working on the CC HDS 3165 all day. Thanks for the replies!
The repair manual has the correct instructions for the Mikuni carb but the photos don't match exactly. Also, as I said the parts manual has different jets, fuel solenoids, etc. but doesn't say what belongs in what. Some of the items do specify but some don't. I then tried to search the carb to get better pictures and to make sure it hasn't been swapped. Thats when I started getting Nikki carbs with the same numbers but would not pull up a Mikuni. Just think it's odd and would like to get specs. I finally sent an email to B&S with my questions. I'll see what they say. |

I noticed, in your photo, the "overflow tube" on the carb has a yellowish line coming off it. Where does it go and is that factory or did you install it? My engine does not have that line. |

That's how I got it and it is still there. I'll look tonight and get some better pics. I think that is the Nikki carb but I'll let you know.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
