Default 2084 Hydro Problem

I have a 2084 that slows down uphill. If I give it more forward lever it will speed back up. Loading up the power steering by moving the wheel all the way one way or the other also slows the speed slightly. forward/reverse lever is snug and stays in one spot. I also checked the trunnion and appears to be fine. springs are intact. Maybe they are weak? outer spring will move back and forth between the keepers but I was told this is normal? Could there be an internal problem? Pump seems fine I can spin the tires with ease. Any ideas? Thanks

Is this normal for a 2084? I've had other cub hydros that didn't do this. If this is normal then I would be happy.

The speed control lever is NOT cruise control.

Your other hydros must have been magic. All of mine slow just a little uphill

Let me try to make this simple. The Cub hydro consists of a variable displacement hydraulic piston pump and a fixed displacement piston motor. At a set point the pump sends a given volume of oil to the motor. The motor because of clearances between the pistons and the cylinders that they fit in allow some of the oil to leak past the pistons. This is similar to blow by on an engine. Now lets assume that you are going down hill, the load imposed by the tractor against the motor is reduced so the amount of oil that leaks past the pistons is also reduced so you get an increase in ground speed. Now when you go up hill the load on the motor is increased causing more leakage past the pistons causing a reduction in ground speed. That's why you find yourself adjusting the speed control lever to maintain a given speed.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
