Points Gap Question
I know that a place to start with points is .020 or a match book cover. Question is - what are the extreme max and minimum gaps you've had to live with a Kohler engine to get your IHCC's engine timed and running correctly?
Thanks! Bill

I've heard anywhere from .016 to .022 is somewhat common. Beyond that, I'm sure we'll be seeing some extreme numbers pop up pretty soon.

Use the static timing method. Do worry about the gap. The big thing to worry about is when they open.

our alky motors can run anywhere from 27-35. a gas stocker starts to detonate between 25-26 degrees of timing.

Will this system work with a KT17 series II? I'm having a real hard time with it. Doesn't wanna start, backfiring through carb and muffler and runs real rough.

Also agreed. Point gap really is not that important. On a Kohler it's all about timing. According to the mark on the flywheel it is 20* BTDC. I would probably err on the side of too much advance. They tend to run better that way. 22* - 24* is nice if you don't have too much kickback when cranking (which is the drawback of higher advance)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
