An Illinoisian with questions!
Hello, all! Until I gain some experience, I probably won't be able to help other forum members much, but, hopefully, I can ask questions whose answers will be helpful to others.
I'm pretty private when it comes to personal info., but, what I can say is that in taking on care of my Dad's property, I've also taken on 4 different Cub Cadet lawn tractors in various states of disrepair. One, my wife and I have working pretty well, one we have not really gotten to, one may just need new blades and a couple tires, and one has leaky tires, a (now) broken deck belt, and possible PTO / drive to the blades problems. The last is a Model 1517, and I'll be starting a thread with my questions about it, shortly. The 1517 is a MTD mfg'd. model, correct? It is considered a "Lawn Tractor", right? Likes & pursuits (in most cases, when I have a little (too little!) time for them): Reading (history, science, space, nature, speculative fiction aka "hard" sci-fi, like Asimov, Heinlein, etc.), some sports, a little gardening, nature (camping, exploring, fishing(!!), etc., (good) audio electronics - can't afford the elite stuff, tho', music, computers (when not making me bang my head on the desk!) , following politics & current events, meteorology (was in a tornado as a kid), earthquakes (live too near the New Madrid fault to be comfortable), fixing stuff, enjoy "Star Trek" (but am not a "Trekkie"), think "Babylon 5" was the best TV show ever, my family. If anyone has a Johnson Guide 165 fishing reel in good shape, I might be interested (then I just have to find time to use it!) I have a pretty crazy schedule, so my posts may be at "weird" times, and when things get "busy" with work or care of my parents, I may "disappear" for weeks at a time. That's probably more than enough of an intro - on to the questions! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
