An unexpected problem
I need a lower hitch link for use with my 1A tiller on my QL. I ordered one from one of our sponsors thinking that a lower hitch link was a lower hitch link. Not true. The one I got would not work with the tiller, holes not lining up.
The part # I have from the IH parts lookup is 703-0400 but none of the sponsors show that part #, just a generic description. I've already paid for return shipping and a restocking fee, a costly lesson I'd rather not repeat. How can I tell which lower link will work with the tiller? Has any forum member bought one for this purpose and if so, where? Thanks for any info Dave |

The "gearbox mounting frame" is also the tiller mounting frame/bracket.
There are no other brackets. Read this: http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4698

Thanks for the reply sam but after reading the manual several times I keep coming back to the diagram showing the lower hitch link mounted ON the tiller mounting plate and acting like a doubler for the tiller mounting pins. I know the PO did not use this link because the lower holes in the mounting plate are quite hogged out from the movement of the pins. I may be mistaken here but it sure looks to me like the lower hitch link is used with the tiller. Thanks again.

Just checked again and right there on pg. 12 it says "mounting plate and hitch link attached"

Duke,
I agree the lower link isn't needed to attach the tiller and it's clear to me that the PO didn't use it because of the condition of the holes in the plate. I probably will end up not using it either although I think it would make the attachment stronger and by placing the pins in double shear would save wear and tear on the mounting plate holes. Dave |

This is the part. The part # crosses over to the old #376 334 R1 lower hitch bracket. You only use the 2 outer holes to mount it

I stand corrected!
I guess I've never paid any attention before. The funny thing is, my 100 has the lower hitch link on it, and it's the one that I bolted together myself! The other two, that are here, are as they were when I got them and they don't have the lower link. I guess I'm getting old, because I do not remember putting that link on the 100. Now, I gotta root around and see if I can come up with a couple more lower links for the other two tillers.

For what it's worth, Chris at Cub Classics has what you are looking for on page 3 of "Cub Cadet Parts". I would guess that Rich at Patton Acres also has them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
