42" Mower Deck on 122 with manual lift
I have a 1965 122 with manual lift and what I believe is the original 42" mower deck. On one notch of manual lift it cuts too low. On the next notch up, it cuts a bit.too high. Is there an adjustment I can make too the scissor lift mechanism (haven't a clue what the real name is) to tweak it enough for my needs?

I don't believe there is any cam adjustment that you can make to it. You could put a hydraulic lift or electric lift on that would give you slide adjustment with somewhat of an infinite range, limited by the extremes, of course. Have you inspected your teeth on your bracket to see if any are missing? You could also use the "float" adjustment for your deck if you want it to follow the contours of your land. You might even try mowing your grass in a different direction than you normally do to see if that makes it look better to you.
BTW: Great looking cub that you have there and welcome to the forum! Cub Cadet 123

Lock out the lift button and use the stop that is on top of the frame rail by your right foot.
Part #7 All it takes is a 3/4' wrench You will then gain the advantage of "deck float" as well |

That is exactly what I did on my 123 to work around the same problem the OP is having. |

The notches on that ratchet bar (part #8) I'd guess move the deck 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch between notches.
I'm having trouble envisioning the o.p.'s problem of the cut being too low and then too high by moving the arm-strong lever just one notch. I wouldn't give it any thought, but maybe he's mowing a putting green. That being said, I have seen the slot at the bottom of the arm-strong lever (part #11) worn so bad that it lets the rod (part#6) rotate and not hold in position like it should, but regardless the chosen cut height would remain constant. |

I completely forgot about that stop. Thank you so much for reminding me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
