Default Sloppy steering on 129 overcome

A combination of replacing the cam follower, tie rod ends, installing a thrust bearing, and a lot of grease in the steering box, is not power steering by any means, but a lot less play, and more immediate response.

If you didn't pull the spindles, pull them, clean and regrease and that helps a lot. The old grease turns hard and doesn't lube as well.

I had tried that before all the other work....would really like to replace the front axle with one with 1" spindles

Did you get the bushings to rotate inside the cast iron axle?

One time I had one that had worn the end of the bushings so bad, I had to grind some off the axle to get the bushings to rotate again,,,

I have never purchased a GT that did not need the bushings to be driven out and cleaned,,

Yeah...I was lucky they were both snug fitting...no wobble and not jammed in....replacements are available from a few guys that specialize in Cub steering parts
