Looking at a super. What do I look for?

I am going to look at a super soon. Anything in particular that I need to look for , that would be different from a wide frame. Thanks in advance

I suppose it would be helpful to know what model you'll be looking at , a 1872 may have different issues than say a 2182.

From the info handed down to me when I was looking, check for loose, missing and or broken bolts where the rear attaches to the frame..cracked rear end housing, or broken where it attaches. Check the drive shaft to see if everything is tight and not loose... But I guess that would be a normal check as in a GT....
I ALWAYS check to see if the fan is intact, but you'll notice that as you are looking at the drive shaft.
Check for cracks in the frame. Seeping steering cylinder, heck, about all I can think of off hand. What model you looking at?

On my 2072 a couple of things we ran into were:

Pull the air filter cover and see if its oily--there was some sort of reed valve plate or something like that I changed to solve that.

Mine has a 60" deck, check for excess wear on the mule drive. It was being ran with the tractor carrying the deck for the most part. I had to weld up a few things to remedy this. The deck now runs on the ground like it should.

If you have a Haban deck, check for cracked welds and bad gauge wheels. Also see if the spring for the tightening pulley is broke. All this is normal Haban wear/old age issues.

The other stuff like loose rear end bolts and bad drivelines apply to all models as far as I'm concerned.

If you're looking at a 982, then the Onan itself is an issue strictly from the standpoint of the price of repair parts.

when I got my 1872 I fixed it for a guy and tried it out before I bought it from him , I didn't have any issues with the rear end or frame bolts but at the moment I do have a oil seal leaking around the hydro pump shaft, I also had a magneto die on me as I was using it, but other then that just check it out good and see what you find, I paid 800 for my 1872 and sold the 3 point off it for 400 so it was a pretty cheap tractor, wish I had the 60 inch deck but it has a nice 50 on it . mine also has 855 hours on the magnum 18 just to give you something to compare it to , post pics when you get one

Went and looked at the 1872 the other day, it was listed on CL looked good nice and straight, very weak compression, 60" deck was needing some parts and the 450 blower also needs a bunch of tlc, could not come together on a price so came home empty, just keep looking.
