Default Clutch repair on a Cub 71

The clutch took a dump on my Cub 71. It's a worker, not a show tractor. It will go for awhile in gear, then just stop with no power to the wheels. I'm in southern Ohio. Does anyone out there know a shop that will fix my clutch? I've spent the morning calling small engine repair shops and the answer I'm getting is basically "what's a Cub 71?". I don't think I want them to work on it. I've read the FAQ's and the technical manuals and I don't think it's something I want to tackle on my own.

Your best bet will be to find a member interested in working on it, I'd be willing but I'm to far away.

Thanks Tim. Anyone out there interested? I'm not looking for charity and I'll deliver and pick up when it's done. I'm north of Cincinnati and not afraid to drive an hour plus.

Deltacub: that's ironic. I was just in Lisbon, Ohio last weekend to buy a Haban sickle. Wish my clutch would have given out a week ago, I could have just brought it up to you then! If I don't get any closer interest, I'll be in touch, and I sure appreciate the help. My brother lives in Canton, so I could bring it up to you when I go up to visit him in a few weeks.

That could work!

OP you may want to take a gander under neath and check out the adjustment of the clutch, also inspect everything, there could be a sheared roll pin or something simple your missing.

Alvy-I adjusted the clutch and tinkered with it a bit. I noticed that I can slide the clutch drive disc back and forth on the drive shaft between the release lever and the drive plate. It moves freely within that space. I also have an old 104 and the drive disc doesn't budge at all on it. Not sure if that tells me anything or not.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
