Front steering repair and foward reverse pedal on 109
Long time reader but this is my first build thread. I'm not a purist by any means when it comes to this stuff and I'm all about function over beauty. So here it goes. I picked up this 109 with a blade on it for just taking care of our neighborhood. When I got it the steering wasn't impressive by any means, the front axle pin was wallard out and I hate trying to operate the plow, steer and go forward or backwards with only two hands. So I started by replacing all the tie rod ends. Then I pulled the front axle off. I found that the section of frame that supports the rear of the pin was all beat up and had wore a large hole. So i made a new pin that was undersized and made of case hardened shafting, made bushings to go in the axle, front collar and made a rear block to weld to the frame to replace where the hole got wore out. So far so good all I need to do now is weld the block on. I also pulled the steering gearbox and cleaned up the guide pin and reassembled everything.
As for the forward and reverse issue I'm building a pedal setup to go in it. So far here is what I have done. The second to last picture is my pedal setup. Two blocks welded inside the frame with the old linkage running thru it out the right side where the pedal will be mounted. The old bracket will be used on the shaft to connect to the linkage to the hydro and c clips will hold everything in place. Thanks guys for all your inspiration. WatchiWatching everyone else's posts is my motivation. |

Never been a huge fan of hydros because I feel like I need 3 hands haha. Very interested in this project. I've only seen it on a 129 loader tractor where the lift arm was removed and that rock shaft became the pedal. I cant wait to see what route you are going with it.

Thank you everyone. It's been slow but I removed the linkage from the forward and reverse that runs through the tower down to where it mounts. I sandblasted it and am finishing up my support blocks for it. I will drill a 1/2" hole on the right side of the frame in front of the rock shaft then tack weld my support blocks inside the frame. Using the old linkage from the tower as my linkage for the pedal. The hardest part I think is going to have clearance for everything but I think it will fit. I will try to get more pics today of it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
