1572 Cylinder Compression
Breaking out in a new thread (Thanks Mods) my 1572 project. I have worked through many electrical issues and am now trying to start the engine. First step was to perform a compression test, I pulled the glow plugs and tested each cylinder one at a time.
Results were not favorable: Cylinder 1: 300 Cylinder 2: 175 Cylinder 3: 250 Help appreciated on steps forward.

Cold compression checks are not usually favorable. The concerning part is the variation between the cylinders. While one cylinder is low, there should be enough there for the engine to fire up and run, albeit it might be low on power.

I am sure my testing method was well short of ideal conditions, I just wanted to see what I was working with. Engine was cold and I am suspecting the injectors are leaking, I have seen some diesel fuel at the base of injector #1 while cranking it over so definitely an issue there. Could be a return line but I can't tell right now. Would a leaking injector show low compression?
I ran out of time but my next step is to pull the injectors and validate fuel delivery. Really glad the wiring problem is mostly solved now I need to just keep working down the list.

I would check your valve clearances also. My 1572 had several that were way out of spec when I was putting it back in service.

Great suggestion, I'll add that to my list. Were you able to locate a manual for the Kubota engine?

You could also do a leakdown test, that should illuminate where the compression is going.

Think I’ve solved my compression issue. It’s cheating somewhat but a solid running G5200 with the D600 came up the other day for a price that I couldn’t pass up. Will be transferring engines and picking this issue up in the Kubota this winter so the 1572 can cut some grass this summer. I might start a new thread on the swap if there is interest.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
