Default A good cub buy?

So I'm addicted to these lil yeller machines. I'm scouring craigslist and someones selling a cub 1325 (i think). Hes asking $200 it looks like its in great shape. It comes with wheel weights a plow and a mower deck. It has a kohler command 12.5hp motor. Does anyone know anything about this model and if its a good buy? Are the wheel weights and the plow able to be used on my 105?

You pretty much answered your own question...if you think its in great shape, buy it. A Cub Cadet is worth what someone wants to pay for it.

The plow and wheel weights will not work on a 105.

I believe a 1325 is a LAWN TRACTOR, not much more than a grass cutting machine. Vertical shaft engine, belt drive. It is no where near the machine that your 105 is.

That's a good price for a lawn mower but I'd hold off and get an IH made machine even if I had to add a little more to it.

None of the newer ones I have seen hold a mtch much less a candle to the older Cubs. I have a lt1046 and a 1810. I can cut more grass faster with a smaller deck on the 1810 dragging the other one than I can with the LT1046 running wide open with a tail wind, downhill with N2O

CubNub,

Sounds like you've got the garden tractor thing pretty solid with the 105. If you're looking for a lawn mower, I'd say consider it enough to go look at it. IF he comes down a little, even better.

I've got a 1715, which I think is VERY similar to what you are considering (save for the 17hp Kohler engine) and I intend on using that one to mow my yard and do little things like pull a small trailer. Not intended for heavy stuff. I like mine and, I've got an Original to scratch that old-time itch and if we need to pull something stubborn.

While they don't have the following that the garden tractors enjoy, my opinion is that they're still built much better than the current offerings today.

The transmissions in those are not known for being tough, particularly the hydrostatic models. If I were you I'd save my money for another 'real' Cub Cadet.

Thats a good price. While the attachments are not interchangeable, it is a good machine for a good price. I used to have a similar Cub, no matter what anyone else says, it is a good lawn tractor for light duty work, and I would sooner mow with it than any of the old cubs.

I've got a 1330 I bought new in 1992, and as far as I'm concerned it's a good "lawn tractor" despite what others say. But remember it's a lawn tractor, nothing like the old GT's. It's made for cutting grass and pulling around a cart.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
