Some work on the 1450
Last week I washed my 1450, and brought it in the garage to wax it and do a couple small things on it. I noticed the nut on the drive lever rockshaft was loose, and when I tightened it the drive lever wouldn’t move. The shaft was stuck in the bushing. It must have been like that as long as I had it and I never noticed. I got that freed up and now the drive lever operates much better, but was way out of adjustment. I tried adjusting it, and couldn’t get it right. I did some reading on here and everything pointed to a worn trunnion. I pulled the fender pan off and sure enough it was worn. The damper plate was also stuck on the shaft. That would explain why the hydro was always jerky on this one. I know this is common on these, but I haven’t fixed one yet. I got the slot welded up and ground back to square, and put in new springs and pins. The cork gasket was leaking too, so it got a new one, along with new fluid and a filter. I got it all back together and it is much nicer now. I should have done this a while ago. My 129 needs the same things done, that may be my next project.

Now with that done, I could finish what I originally set out to do. I put on my new gas cap and IH emblem that I got a few years ago, but never put on. Changed the burnt out headlight. Buffed and waxed the whole thing. It looks pretty good now, just needs a set of taillights. Now it’s almost too nice to put it to work.

Nice job IH! Is that a copper plate you used under the trunnion? I've done that several times on different things and it works great.

I got a taillight (I already had one off a parts tractor), and a set of NOS hood decals. Thanks again Lew!
I got the taillights on and wired up. The decals will be going on soon. Now it’s kind of bothering me how crooked that IH decal is, but I think I’ll leave it for now. This tractor has all original paint, so it must have came from the factory that way.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
