Default Crank Questions

I was reading about cranks and I saw that there was a cast crank and a forged crank, Im just wondering whats the difference and how do you tell them apart? and if a cast crank can handle a 33lb vogel flywheel @4000 rpm for pulling.

We were just discussing this on another pulling forum. the good cranks are the magnum cranks that have the 3/8 tapped hole on the flywheel end rather than a nut. I've been seeing a number of stockers have major block failures , lifting the jug, heavy flywheel and starter pulleys seam to be common in them along with unbalanced rotating assemblies. I have 1 16 out there with a stock kohler crank with the nut on the flywheel end with a 35 lb wheel on it. the flywheel broke the key and spun on the dyno. when I put it back on I used a hardend key a locktite on the taper. seams to holding together so far, I do balance the rotating assemblies also
