My old Troy Bilt tiller
Someday hopefully I'll have a big enough garden to warrant a tiller for my 1000, but for about the last 15 years my early 5 HP Troy Bilt has handled the job well.
I saw it in our local free advertising paper back when I first started gardening. The seller ended up being a musician acquaintance whom I hadn't seen in 20 years or so. Him and his father had replaced the motor at some point, and it has run like a champ ever since I've owned it. Taking these pics made me think that maybe I should shine the paint up like I did on my CC.... good job for a rainy day. Josh P |

I had an 8HP B&S Troy Bilt Horse that I sold last year. It was a 1980 model. That thing was a total beast! I'd fix it back up red, those old troy bilts are like the IH Cubs, be proud of them. I somewhat miss mine, but it was a freebie that needed more work than I wanted to do.

Old Troy bilts
I love old TB Tillers. I have 4 of them, two Horse models, both 4 speed, and one has the PTO in/out lever. One is a junior and the other a Lowes model with CR tines.
The Old Horse models are the best, however if you only want to do some light work and destroy some small weeds the Junior will handle it. I replaced the engine on the Junior. It was given to me with a "see through" 4 hp Tecumseh. Rod came out the side. I took a 4hp B&S off an old Ariens front tine tiller and put on it. Works just fine. Now the only problem here in SW Missouri in the last week we have had over 20 inches of rain....yep I said 20 inches. The lakes are flooding and my garden, however, high and dry, looks like a freakin pond. By July and August it will be near 100 and no rain, you can bet on it. Dave in SW Missouri |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
