Compressor motor repaired....finally!
You can see my lonely compressor, sans motor, in this picture. The motor stopped starting, and I thought it just needed new caps. Took it to the motor shop (in early October), and found that the big 5hp GE motor, and all it's parts, were obsolete. New motor was $4-500. It turned out that it wasn't the start caps, even though they did get replaced due to cracks, but a switch. A NLA switch was bad, but they found one that works and put it all together, along with new bearings and a few other refurb items. I'm looking forward to getting it back on the beast and running. I may spring for a new tank, since the original is around 40 years old. The pump is a 2 stage/16+cfm @ 175 psi, Champion 15rb and parts are still available so I may give it a rebuild in the spring. It should last another 40 years without any problem.

Those big industrial quality motors are always worth rebuilding.
They will out work todays throwaway china junk every time. I'm glad you were able to find a rebuilder who took the time to fix it. Looks like an old Dayton. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
