Oil for winter?
What weight oil do you guys use in the winter? I have 30w in it now and tried to start it yesterday and it was already to thick to want to turn over. So what do you guys suggest? Cub 1450 is the tractor.

I would say your battery is in need of replacement if it is struggling to turn it over now or your connections are not very good. 10w-30w is what I run in the winter and it gets quite a bit colder here in Central NY than it does in KY.

See, I thought it was the battery as well, but it is new with a fresh trickle charge and all the connections are good. Could it be that its bored .30 over? Could that affect it?

I use 5w 30 in the winter and do notice a little more oil consumption and slight smoke on start up. On hydro untils I always use a battery tender to keep battery fully charged.

Maybe the compression release is not working properly or the starter is on it's way out. It's been as cold as 37 at night here this past week and my cubs start right up without an issue.

Have you had that starter out and cleaned the insides? If it is dirty in there, it really cuts down the ability for the starter to crank the way it should. Your 1450 should be starting without problems with our current weather right now.

I have not checked the starter, but I put a 250w light under the tractor yesterday for about 20 min and it fired right up.

That's only true if it doesn't freeze where you live...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
