Transmission alloy?
I think someone on here said it, as well as I've seen on other tractor forums, that SOME of the 2000 series tractors had cast iron transmissions before they switched to aluminum.
What's the best way to tell what it's made of? Based on what we've determined on another post, my 2155 seems to be a 1996 model so it's one of the earlier builds in the series of that helps as well. |

I feel like an idiot Roland. Magnet doesn't stick to mine so I guess it's aluminum. Looks like the later models in the 2000 series switched to cast iron...

Early 2000 series or Pre 2011 Models are aluminum Housings
The 2500 series was a Cast Iron Housing 2011 to 2015 2000 series was a Cast Iron housing actually the same Trans outer case as a Cub Cadet 3100 model. But late 2000 series Had a BDU10 Pump instead of the BDU 20 Pump found on the 3100 model but same outer case XT3 Cast Iron Housing

Side panels lol. The right one I tightened up the wing nut and it seems fine. The left one I tried to tighten and found it's not even attached anymore the metal is broken. So that's why it keeps popping off.

Other than the added weight from the cast iron vs aluminum, which I assume helps with ground work, is there any other benefit from one or the other?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
