Default Cub Cadet Hydraulic Lift Unit

I just posted this to ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cub-Cadet-Hy...-/200685927601

Looking for information on what models it will fit and also wondering about the actual rarity and what they have sold for in the past.

Cheers, JR

Pros:

- Absolutely complete as far as I can tell by looking at CC parts schematics.
- All but one small bolt are original IH-stamped (all the important ones, ie. carriage bolts, are indeed stamped).
- Everything spins freely, control arm works smoothly, cylinder is free and actuates smoothly.
- No modifications or hack jobs - ideal candidate for a full restoration.
- I would rate this assembly an easy 8-9 out of 10 for overall appearance.

Cons:

- Cylinder rod has some corrosion, but this can be easily and inexpensively replaced by a reputable hydraulic cylinder repair shop or machine shop as it is a very simple rod. You could also just polish it out and try it as is but I would advise replacing it if you are going to do a seal job on the cylinder.
- I do not have the lift arm assembly that attaches the rod end of the cylinder to the rock shaft / lower lift arm pivot. You will have to fabricate (not rocket science) or find one.
- Hoses were shot, however one was still original, so that says something...
- Drive pulley has a ding that needs to be worked out and a slight wobble that needs correcting, just some simple metal persuasion.

In this condition they sell for an average of $200-300, depending on demand at the time. I got one of mine around this time of year with everything ( including the rockshaft) for $300 on eBay, though it did not have the original handle. The pulley is about like mine was, and is easy to fix, the thing that will hurt you most is the lack of the rockshaft adapter. As far as being rare, you can find them without a lot searching ( I have two) but demand makes them valuable. A guess is you will get $200- $275. It should fit from the 70-127. Any narrow frame other than the 147.

I am thinking around the $200 range due to lack of the rock shaft and the condition of the ram shaft looking pitted and lack of the pulley for the motor to use it with and no hoses that I see.

As far as I know all the narrow frames have the pulley off the engine built into the coupler on the shaft side of the engine, so that's not a issue. But the other things you pointed out will effect the value for sure.

I would rate this a 5 or 6 out of 10 because:
drive pulley needs work
hoses need replace
cylinder shaft needs replace....expect to pay $50 to $150 to replace it (local shop gets $75 to open cylinder up) plus new seals
paint isn't in the best

Does the spool/directional valve move/go back to center when you let go of the handle?

Wow, thanks for all the feedback. I will definitely be making some changes to my auction details as a result.

The spool/directional valve does indeed move/go back to center when you let go of the handle.

My rating was really based on overall appearance and completeness of the unit as a starting point for a proper restoration, which would naturally include things like hoses, seals, tweaking the pulley, and possibly cylinder rod replacement, etc.

Again, thanks for all of your feedback - very helpful. Cheers.

The replacement spring is $36 plus shipping. You'll need a new o-ring and oil so you'll have to factor that into it. I think the thing that hurts you most is the lack of the rock shaft.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
